The Union Scout will take part in the elections to the Bundestag. The Berlin club announced that Oliver Ruhnert, who holds the position of chief scout, will suspend his activities from January as he intends to run for the German parliament.
Ruhnert will focus on the election campaign for the Bundestag, which is expected to hold early elections in February 2025. Incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz is forecast to lose a vote of confidence in a vote scheduled for next month.
According to Get Football News Germany, Oliver will run in Berlin and is the main candidate for Sarah Wagenknecht`s Alliance party in the German capital.
Ruhnert had previously been politically active in his hometown of Iserlohn and declared his ambition to be elected to the Bundestag.
It is not yet known when Runert will return to work in the Union, it will probably depend on his success in the elections.
Oliver, who previously held a similar position at Schalke, played a key role in bringing in the players who led the club to the Champions League the season before last.
