| | Andrew Shovlin: It’s unlikely that Hamilton’s puncture in Qatar was caused by debris on the track27.12.2024 |
A Mercedes race engineer has clarified the situation with Hamilton`s puncture in Qatar. At the Qatar Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton suffered a puncture - then many considered the cause of the incident to be debris from a broken mirror lying on the main straight and flying off Alex Albon`s Williams.
However, according to Mercedes racing engineer Andrew Shovlin, Hamilton`s tire problems began even before that.
We have video data and we can clearly see exactly when the mirror was broken, when it shattered into pieces.
We also have data from the car, we measure tire pressure during the race. Surprisingly, we can see that Lewis began to lose pressure even before Valtteri [Bottas] smashed the mirror on the track. Therefore, we can say that it is unlikely that the puncture occurred due to debris.
That doesn`t mean Lewis hasn`t picked up some of the pieces. We need to wait for the results of Pirelli’s tests and studies, ” Shovlin said.
