The NBA has developed a plan to create its league in Europe. According to the Serbian publication Meridian Sport and journalist Djordje Matic, the NBA is preparing to create a new European league that could become a competitor to the Euroleague.
The NBA is very close to the final decision on creating a separate league on the Old Continent without intermediaries such as the Euroleague and FIBA, in direct contact with the largest clubs, the report says.
The publication also notes that the G-League is not seen by the NBA as an adequate competition for player development, and this is also a good reason for the NBA to invest in Europe given the talent they are getting, such as Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Cannis Antetokounmpoand Domantas Sabonis.
The rift between FIBA and the EuroLeague makes the situation in European basketball problematic and has long been considered the reason why the NBA has not intervened.
Yesterday after the Euroleague match between Panathinaikos and Maccabi Tel Aviv (93:87), the head coach of the Greek team, Ergin Ataman, indirectly confirmed the existence of a plan.
